A Heartbreaking And Beautiful Tragedy- Hostile () Movie Review
While I tend to enjoy post-apocalyptic films, they have been overdone lately, a slew of more of the same and less of something new. When I heard about the post-apocalyptic film, Hostile, it sounded like something with the potential to put a fresh spin on a well-worn genre, and I knew I had to check it out as soon as I had a chance. Read on to find out why I think you should give Hostile a sh0t.
Hostile is the directorial debut of writer/director Mathieu Turi. The film stars Brittany Ashworth (The Crucifixion ), Gregory Fitoussi (World War Z ), and Javier Botet (Mama ).
The films synopsis:
Juliette, a lone survivor of an apocalyptic era, fights to survive against hunger, thirst, a broken leg and strange, disturbing creatures that only come out at nighttime.
Hostile is the story of Juliette (Ashworth), a young woman who survived the apocalypse. While on a supply run and struggling to make it back before nightfall, she wrecks her vehicle, leaving her trapped with a broken leg as night rapidly approaches and cannibalistic creatures come out to feed. As she battles hunger, thirst
Brittany Ashworth Goes “Hostile”
Launching her career in British TV shows like “Cold Feet,” “Doctors” and the cult-comedy hit “Mrs. Ratcliffe’s Revolution,” Brittany Ashworth has steadily expanded her acting portfolio. Her most recent Hollywood films include starring roles in the horror thriller ‘The Crucifixion,” the horror drama “Hostile,” and the crime thriller “Accident Man.”
In the critically acclaimed, award-winning indie “Hostile,” Ashworth is Juliette, one of few survivors in a global epidemic that has wiped out most of Earth’s population. In this one-on-one interview, Ashworth reveals the challenges and triumphs throughout her career and her thoughts about “Hostile.”

Hostile isnt exactly a bad film, but its a film centered entirely around its twist ending. I wont say what the twist was, but I will say that it seemed to be the entire reason why the film existed, as if nothing else mattered.
For instance, we are never told how the world came to be a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland. Now, I understand that most apocalyptic films also dont bother to explain how the world came to be that way, but in Hostile the lack of an explanation was all the more irritating because we see flashback sequences set in New York City, where everything is shown as being perfectly normal. And the main character looks practically the same age in these sequences as she does in the rest of the film, so were supposed to believe that in just a few short years the world went from being exactly the same as it is now, to being Mad Max: Fury Road? Even under the Trump presidency, I dont think such a change could have happened so quickly.
Logistics aside, Brittany Ashworth gave absolutely everything as Juliette, a woman trying
The Ending Of Hostile Explained
ByErich B. Anderson
"Hostile" took a concept that is often told in an epic fashion but scaled it down to a far more intimate level. The film is shown from the perspective of the heroine, Juliette (Brittany Ashworth), as she travels across a perpetually desiccated landscape on what may seem like a suicidal mission. However, she acts with skill and purpose to gather supplies for her growing community of survivors and is therefore one of the most important members of the tiny post-apocalyptic society.
To help keep her motivated, Juliette keeps her most prized possession from her past with her at all times, which is a photo of her with the man who meant more to her than anything else in life. When the photo accidentally flies out the window of her truck, she tries to retrieve it in a panic and crashes the vehicle.
From that point, writer and director Mathieu Turi ("Meander") almost splits the film into two genres: Flashbacks of the past show the tragic romance of Juliette and her husband Jack (Grégory Fitoussi), while the present features the protagonist's struggle for survival in a world filled with mutated zombies and ruthles
