He has contributed to various researche papers including one titled Comprehensive plan for Improvement of Quetta water Supply and Sewerage System. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cybercrime wing said it raided Jans residence in Lahore on Thursday and arrested him for stoking religious hatred against an “important personality” and institutions.

Jan, a columnist, poet, playwright and former civil servant, has a following of over one million subscribers to his YouTube channel. Last year he was detained by intelligence agencies for several days for openly criticising the role of the powerful military in politics and for supporting jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
Following the arrest of Khan, the founder supremo of the Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party last August, a number of journalists and YouTubers in the country faced arrests, violence, and threats amid mass protests.
Earlier last week, another Pakistani YouTuber and comedian Aun Ali Khosa was allegedly abducted by intelligence agencies for singing a song critical of the Shehbaz Sharif government and its backers. He, however, had returned home to Punjab province, his lawyer said on Monday.

LAHORE: A judicial magistrate at district courts on Friday denied Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) further physical remand of anchorperson Orya Maqbool Jan and sent him on judicial remand in a cybercrime case pertaining to alleged hate speech against the top judge of the country.
A team of the FIA presented the anchorperson before the magistrate on expiry of his physical remand.
The investigating officer (IO) asked the magistrate to extend the physical remand of the suspect for further six days. He said the custody of the suspect was required for the arrest of other suspects.
Judicial Magistrate Sarwat Batool observed that the record showed no substantial progress in investigation during the last four-day physical remand of the suspect.
Therefore, she said, further physical remand cannot be granted in a mechanical way.
The magistrate turned down the request for further physical remand and sent the anchorperson to jail on judicial remand. She directed the IO to submit the challan of the case within the stipulated time required under Section of CrPC.
