An exhibition of paper jewelry by Kiff Slemmons executed during her residencies at Taller Arte Papel in Oaxaca, Mexico. This long-standing and ongoing partnership that began eighteen years ago has taken Slemmons&#;s work into new realms of form and materiality. The exhibition title references not only how each piece is crafted bead by bead through a process of collaboration, but also how Slemmons creates a body of work and views the individual pieces as forming one conceptual whole in their totality.
Slemmons, widely-acclaimed for her metal-based jewelry practice, has transferred her decades-long experience and understanding of jewelry&#;s potential to paper. The results yield formal explorations into the role of abstraction, color, pattern, and structure. Slemmons is a profound artist who approaches jewelry as objects that convey thoughts and ideas. In this exhibition, American artist Kiff Slemmons continues to investigate past jewelry forms through an ongoing exploration of paper as a material. These works address the simultaneous strength and fragility of paper, the historical and cultural significance of the material, and the use of paper and jewelry as a way to both protect and connect.

Introduction
On January 20, , Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States. He is the first African American president, and one of the youngest presidents ever elected. He has a wife, Michelle, and two daughters, Malia, and Sasha.
Early Life
Barack Obama was born August 4, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father came to America from Kenya, which is a country in Africa. His parents, Ann and Barack, met when they were students at the University of Hawaii. Since Barack had the same name as his father, young Barack went by the nickname “Barry”.
After his dad finished college, he went back to Kenya, leaving his mother to take care of Barry. In , when Barry was six years old, his mother married a student from Indonesia and they moved to Indonesia with him. They had many pets, including baby crocodiles and a gibbon, which is a type of monkey.
While they were in Indonesia, his mother had another baby. Her name was Maya. Right after she was born, Barry’s mother got divorced, and Barry, his mother, and his new baby sister moved back to Hawaii.

Her materials, often referred to as "found," are above all ideas--ideas proposed, examined, and considered through evolving bodies of work rather than individual pieces intended as ends in themselves. Slemmons works in series, producing collections of closely related pieces that will open a dialogue rather than close an aesthetic gap for the viewer/wearer.
By making jewelry, he tries to address key historical and contemporary issues pertaining to both art in general and jewelry in particular. In some cases, doing this by examining the difference between the authentic and the synthetic and between copying and appropriation. Questions surrounding the language of materials are not new, but they are also not resolved, and as such, they remain provocative. Equally vexing are the troublesome conventions of representation and abstraction and the use of scale as a measure of value in contemporary art, a problem for jewelers that I sometimes refer to by using rulers.
