One of Philippine arts and culture’s finest women, launched her highly anticipated biography at Whitespace, Makati.
The launching of Armida Siguion-Reyna’s biography aptly titled, Armida served as a celebration of her legacy as a pillar in both showbiz and public service with prominent names from entertainment and politics attending the launch.
Siguion-Reyna is a multi-faceted icon in the Philippines with notable accomplishments as a singer, actress, producer, and MTRCB chairman. She is best known for her musical TV show, Aawitan Kita, which is the longest-running musical TV show in the country that had bagged awards since it made waves on Philippine television.
Siguion-Reyna was also a leading voice on the issue of film censorship. As a liberal thinker, she called for the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to scrap film censorship and lauded independent filmmakers for showcasing their uncensored films abroad. Armida Siguion-Reyna, the singer, actress, and television and film producer, passed away Monday afternoon at the Makati Medical Center at age 88 after battling cancer, her sister Irma Potenciano said.
Born Nov. 4, , Siguion-Reyna first performed at age eight in the film “Yaman ng Mahirap,” but made her mark as both producer and performer of the musical TV series “Aawitan Kita” (I Will Sing To You), which started in and lasted for more than three decades.
The TV series paved the way for Siguion-Reyna’s other passion, acting&#;•with her youngest son, Carlitos, often on the director’s chair.
As producer of Reyna Films, “Tita Midz” helped bring to life well-remembered Filipino movies like “Hihintayin Kita sa Langit,” “Ikaw Pa Lamang,” “Inagaw Mo ang Lahat sa Akin,” “Abot-Kamay ang Pangarap,” “Kahapon, May Dalawang Bata,” “Ligaya ang Itawag Mo sa Akin,” “Azucena” and “Ang Lalaki sa Buhay ni Selya.”
