This is a quick technical reference for web developers on how to display the author name in WordPress posts. Use the code below to show the author name anywhere on your WordPress website without the use of a plugin.
Best of all, you can do this without a plugin!
Often, website developers are asked to add certain metadata to WordPress blog posts. Most commonly, that means displaying the author’s name and the post’s publication date.
Most WordPress themes have some kind of templated approach for accomplishing this. Or, website owners choose to install plugins that make it easier to manage and add post metadata. This is why WordPress is such a great choice for business websites.
Surprisingly, sometimes these options aren&#;t suitable, or appealing. Therefore, I created a way to incorporate the Author and Last Modified Date using a single shortcode.
Importantly, you&#;ll need access to edit the website&#;s file.
How to display the Author name
Function:
The first step for displaying the author name in a WordPress post is to use this handy function.
This will return the author’s name for the current post (or a given post_id) that can be passed in as a function argu
Post Author block
Go back to the list of Blocks
The Post Authorblockdisplays the username, avatar, and byline of the post’s author.
The Post Author block has a byline space in which you can write optional text, such as &#;Written by:&#; or &#;Post Author: &#; to precede the author’s name. Moreover, there are options in the block settings to show author&#;s avatar, bio, and link the author name to the author page.
Single post templates already include the Post Author block by default. That said, you can insert this block elsewhere by clicking the Add block icon to open the block inserter pop-up window and search for the Post Author block.
You can also type and hit in a new paragraph block to add one quickly.

Each block has its own toolbar, which contains unique controls that let you customize or configure the block. The Post Author block has the following options on its toolbar:

If you click the Post Author icon on the toolbar, you’ll open the Transform to options to convert the block into Columns, Group, and Post Author Name blocks.

Whether or not a byline appears is theme dependent. Some themes do not provide bylines at all. Themes that do provide bylines require the person to be an actual official author of the blog. Regardless of the theme, and provided the theme is designed to display a byline, bylines will only display now if there are at least two authors who are official users of the blog and both have at least one published post in the blog.

Aside from switching themes there are some ways you can approach giving credit to multiple authors.
(1) Create a category for Authors and subcategories for each author by their name. Then readers can click the name and locate all posts authored by any given author.
