Come funziona il padiglione Croazia? Tutto gira intorno al fatto che la consegna delle opere avviene tramite mezzi “non convenzionali”: per realizzarlo ti sei affidata alle persone e alla loro disponibilità a partecipare.
Gli artisti partecipanti devono trovare qualcuno diretto a Venezia e chiedergli di consegnare a mano l&#;opera al padiglione; per ogni opera che ricevo, in cambio invio un mio lavoro realizzato durante la permanenza in Biennale, che verrà a sua volta consegnato tramite conoscenti diretti nelle città dove vivono gli artisti. Ci sono molte persone coinvolte disposte ad improvvisarsi corrieri per la buona riuscita del progetto, e non esagero quando dico che quasi ogni giorno ci sono visitatori che si rendono disponibili per trasportare un&#;opera. È estremamente incoraggiante assistere a tutto ciò.
Come hai scelto gli artisti partecipanti?
Premetto che nel mio lavoro mi metto sempre delle regole, delimito il mio campo d’azione e vedo cosa posso fare entro questa cornice. Vlatka Horvat is an artist working across forms and media &#; from sculpture, installation, collage, and photography to performance, video, writing, and publishing. Her work is presented internationally in a variety of contexts – in museums and galleries, theatre and dance festivals, and in public space. In she represented Croatia at the 60th Venice Biennale. Born in Croatia, she moved to the United States as a teenager and spent twenty years there. She lives in London.

Visual Artist Vlatka Horvat On Going Beyond The Borders Of An Image
During the lockdown last year, Vlatka Horvat decided to walk around her east London neighbourhood. The photographs she took transformed into an exhibition in London.
When I first saw the artwork of London-based artist Vlatka Horvat I found myself doing a double-take – how on earth did she do this? I soon discovered that one of her methods includes re-photographing each image, cutting it along or underneath the figures’ feet – effectively removing the ground beneath them – and reconfiguring it by flipping its parts around and upside down in a variety of ways.
This was her work entitled Run Aground, but today, she frequently explores how we occupy, share, and navigate spaces and structures. Vlatka Horvat&#;s practise spans sculpture, installation, collage, video, photography, performance, writing, and public interventions.
Across different forms and media, Horvat investigates the precarious relationships between bodies, objects, the built environment, and nature by redrawing and reimaging the physical, social, and environmental boundaries experienced in our everyday lives.
