Entertainer Issi Dye has been performing professionally for 58 years, as both singer and television host.
But even as he approaches six full decades of crooning, the well-known veteran has shown no signs of slowing down. On the contrary, whether on stage or giving an interview, his energy is infectious.
“If you&#;re looking at my career, I&#;ve never had a real job,” Dye laughed.
“People say to me, what have you done? I say, well all I’ve done is 58 years of continuing to perform and doing what I love best.”
Looking back at early clips of his work in the 60s and 70s, seeing the image of a slender young pop star with an afro and handlebar moustache grooving away, it might be easy to assume that energy was just an act.
But when Dye speaks about entertaining it’s obvious his passion is genuine.
“I think the key to it is the audience reaction back to you; if you don&#;t have the audience reacting back to you, smiling, singing, you haven&#;t done your job,” he said.
“Let&#;s face it, anybody can get up and sing a song. If they&#;ve got a voice, they can sing a song. But the key is to be able to move the audience, talk to the audience, have a little bit of rep

Dye was born in Austria, his original name Israel Dyzenhous changed by deed poll in to his showbiz name of &#;Issi Dye&#;. He was three when his family emigrated to Australia, settling in Melbourne.
Dye had moderate success as a pop singer, his most successful hit being Incense in Other minor hits included One Last Kiss, Personality, I Wonder Where You Are and I&#;m Counting On You.
Dye went on to host his own television programs including In Gear with Issi Dye, a fashion show on ABC TV, and Issi Dye Presents Late Movies, an overnight block of films on the Nine Network for which he garnered a cult following.

Iconic ‘70s singer and TV host Issi Dye still surprises his fans by reinventing himself at age
“I get a lot of, ‘Issi Dye &#; is he still going?’,” the Melburnian told the Indy.
The man born Israel Dyzenhaus will do anything to stay on stage, after a career performing alongside legends like Roy Orbison, Ray Charles and The Beach Boys.
“To me it’s a labour of love,” he said.
“I work out a few days a week at the gym and I keep myself as trim as possible &#; sometimes I feel like I’m 92, sometimes like I’m ”
The demise of variety shows Dye used to appear on regularly had led him to reinvent himself, he said.
“If people don’t see you every week you’re finished.”
Lately, his love of performing had driven him to take the guise of Johnny O’Keefe or one of the Everly brothers.
“Some people don’t even realise I’m doing the show until they arrive there,” he said.
“They say, ‘what are you doing as an Everly brother? You used to be Issy Dye!’”
