I always say Billions loves symmetries! And Season 3 has built up, slowly and surely, to the ultimate “palace coup” both at Axe Capital and the Southern District of New York. Given how badly the mentors have treated their protégés this season, they have practically asked for what they have just got from them. I think this old saying applies to both Axe and Chuck:
“As you sow, so shall you reap.”

The fall was coming from inside the house. After years spent fending off attacks from without, from rival financiers to a certain ax-grinding United States attorney, Bobby Axelrod got caught flat-footed by his own protégé. Making good on the surprise ending of last week’s episode, in which Taylor Mason made a surprising move to go solo, the Season 3 finale of “Billions†showed Taylor’s plan in action — and it really was all action.
Named “Elmsley Count†after a magicians’ trick in which key cards are kept hidden from the audience, tonight’s hugely entertaining episode reminded me of nothing so much as another Season 3 finale: “Shut the Door. Have a Seat,†the third-season closer for “Mad Men.†That memorable hour was basically a heist movie in which the priceless treasure being stolen, by a breakaway ad agency led by Don Draper, was nothing more or less than their own talent (and client lists). Butter my biscuits, I didn&#;t even realise this was the season three finale of Billions, woot! I&#;m super behind, was hoping that I&#;d make it before the next episode aired&#;which should be&#;February , so I&#;m actually ahead! WOOO!! We saw a big move by a character last week, let&#;s see where everything lands in the finale! Billions do like to make a big play to end off each season.
It&#;s been a tumultuous season, I like how they gave us a whole 11 weeks to get used to the fact that Bobby &#;Axe&#; Axelrod&#;s (Damian Lewis) opponent this season was really his protege Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon) who&#;s had a hell of a year.
Somewhere off on the sidelines are Bobby&#;s former nemesis US Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and the amazing Dr. Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), still moving chess pieces all over the place but not drawing our eye away from Bobby vs. Taylor.
