Alison Moyet (* Juni in Billericay, Essex, England; voller Name Geneviève Alison Jane Moyet) ist eine britische Popsängerin, die vor allem in den er Jahren in Großbritannien erfolgreich war. Musikalischer Werdegang
Mit der Erfahrung als Sängerin in verschiedenen unbekannten Punk- und Bluesbands suchte Moyet zu Beginn der er Jahre per Zeitungsinserat Partner zur Gründung eines eigenen Projekts. Hier stieß der Ex-Depeche-Mode-Keyboarder Vince Clarke auf Moyet. Gemeinsam gründeten sie das Synthie-Pop-Projekt Yazoo. Ihre Debütsingle Only You erreichte Platz 2 der UK-Charts.
Für den amerikanischen Markt erfolgte eine Namensänderung in „Yaz“. Mit den beiden Alben Upstairs at Eric’s und You and Me Both hatte das Duo jedoch hauptsächlich in Europa Erfolg. trennten sich Yazoo aufgrund unterschiedlicher musikalischer Auffassungen. Clarke rief zunächst The Assembly, dann Erasure ins Leben; Alison Moyet startete ihre Solokarriere.

Alison Moyet is a Basildon, UK girl born to a French father and English mother. Having left school at 16, she began her musical journey in punk bands and on the Canvey Island pub rock scene. Her studying piano tuning came to an abrupt halt when &#;Only You&#; became a worldwide hit for her and Vince Clarke, the duo otherwise known as Yazoo. Completely by accident, she found herself thrust into the spotlight of the mainstream pop world.
Yazoo went on to reinvent British dance music, merging cool synthesised soundscapes with soul. Two albums and a Brit Award for Best New Band later, aged just 23 she signs a solo deal with Columbia and records the multi-million selling debut &#;Alf&#;. Released in the album spawned three UK Top 10 hits and wins her a Brit for Best Female Artist.
In Moyet performed at the legendary first Live Aid concert and her next album, &#;s &#;Raindancing&#; gaining her a third Brit. From Wembley Arena a world tour follows.

Who would have guessed that 15, days on from my debut encounter with Alison Moyet here at Brighton Dome, that I would be back seeing her live in action again in a seat quite close to my original one! That debut encounter was on 10th November as one-half of the relatively short lived Yazooproject with Depeche Mode escapee Vince Clarke, who as legend has it, replied to an advert placed in the music press by Moyet. Although their music backgrounds were arguably of different styles, there was commonality in that they both hailed from Basildon in Essex.
Yazoo only originally ran from to , but in that time they seriously stamped their mark as debut album ‘Upstairs At Eric’s’ climbed as high as No.2 in the UK Official Album Charts and was followed by chart topping ‘You And Me Both’. But by this time the duo had already grown apart and as far as I can recall none of the tunes on either album were actually written jointly. But the legend of many of these synthpop compositions have worked their way into the hearts of many genuine music lovers.
