The world’s oldest marathon runner has been honoured in a picture book biography that is set to hit the shelves today.
Fauja Singh Keeps Going chronicles the life of the British Sikh and running legend Fauja Singh, who completed his final marathon at the age of
Author Simran Jeet Singh was inspired to write the book to challenge stereotypes surrounding race, age and disability, and to emphasise what connects us as human beings.
'I believe sincerely that if we can teach our kids to see the humanity in those who seem most different from them, then they can learn to see the humanity in everyone they encounter,' Simran tells Runner’s World.
The book details the numerous obstacles and triumphs of Fauja Singh’s life, from his childhood in India to his later years in England.
Complemented by Baljinder Kaur’s watercolour illustrations, the story focuses on his perseverance in the face of physical strain, social isolation and bigotry.

Biography of Fauja Singh
Fauja Singh, the world's oldest marathon runner, was born on April 1, , in Jalandhar, Punjab, British India. He was the youngest of four children in his family. Singh faced difficulties in his early years as his legs were thin and weak, making it challenging for him to walk long distances. He was teased and given hurtful nicknames as a result. However, as the years went by, Singh became an avid amateur runner.
Unfortunately, due to the Indo-Pakistani conflict in , he had to give up running and return to farming. In August , Singh experienced a tragedy when his fifth son, Kuldip, died in a construction accident. Devastated by this loss, he turned to running again in , finding a new purpose in life and rekindling his passion for the sport. Prior to this, his wife passed away in , followed by the death of his eldest daughter due to complications after childbirth.
Singh immigrated to England in the s and currently resides in Ilford with his son. At the age of 89, he began taking running seriously and eventually participated in international
