Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Martín Ramírez is widely known as one of the preeminent self-taught masters of the 20th Century. Thrust by political and religious upheavals caused by the Mexican Revolution and seeking to support his family, Ramírez relocated to the United States in He worked as an impoverished immigrant in the California mines and railroads until he was picked up by police in —reportedly in a disoriented state. Ramírez was eventually declared schizophrenic (with previous diagnoses of manic-depression and catatonic dementia praecox). He was committed first at Stockton State Hospital and then at the DeWitt State Hospital in Auburn, where he spent the rest of his life. It was there where he discovered art and created the complex and compelling drawings and collages for which he is known.
Over the course of his life, Ramírez produced some works characteristic for their clean yet brazen draftsmanship. The imagery is both suggestive and nostalgic, often reminiscent of his own life experiences. Synopsis
On today’s date in , year-old Italian-born American composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco died in Los Angeles. As a young man, he was already known as a rising composer, concert pianist, music critic and essayist. In , he left Mussolini’s Italy and came to America, and like a lot of European musicians of the time, he found work writing film scores for major Hollywood studios.
Castelnuovo-Tedesco became an American citizen, and eventually taught at the Los Angeles Conservatory, where his pupils included many famous names from the next generation of film composers, including Jerry Goldsmith, Henry Mancini, Andre Previn, Nelson Riddle and John Williams.
In addition to film scores, Castelnuovo-Tedesco composed a signifigant body of concert music, including concertos for the likes of Heifetz and Segovia.

Kada je godine Svetozar izbačen iz Partije i s posla, odlazi u Zagreb gdje je dobio radno mjesto direktora sektora za investicije i razvoj u Zagrebačkoj tvornici papira. Uskoro prelazi na drugo radno mjesto u tvrtku Zagreb-Mainz sa sjedištem u Frankfurtu čiji je suvlasnik bila Privredna banka Zagreb.
