The stimulus for Lexicon, De Does’s second typeface, came directly from Trinité. Bernard C. van Bercum was designing a new edition of the definitive Dutch dictionary, the Van Dale. In late , Van Bercum asked De Does whether the new digital Trinité would be available for the project. Instead De Does proposed a new type, designed specifically for small sizes and coarse resolution printing. Now his primary focus would be on legibility rather than harmony; ten years after Trinité, he had come to question whether the earlier focus on harmony had resulted in greater legibility, as he had initially thought. He was not convinced: ‘Optimal harmony and optimal legibility are in competition with each other. A little vertical unrest is good for legibility.’
The design process of Lexicon started in the same way as Trinité, with a detailed examination of enlargements of historical types. This time De Does focused on small, economical bible types, particularly Granjon’s Gaillarde Roman from Lexicon would be produced in a range of weights and with two ascender and descender lengths; there would also be an extreme bold weight intended for dictionary headwords. Bram de Does () werkte dertig jaar als typograaf voor Drukkerij Enschedé in Haarlem. Hij ontwierp twee nieuwe drukletters, de Trinité en de Lexicon en had ook een eigen private press: de Spectatorpers.
Uit alles blijkt dat hij een groot kunstenaar en vakman was met een grote drang tot perfectie, een echte liefhebber van zijn vak. Of, zoals hieronder bij Ariosto staat: hij leed aan &#;grafische verliefdheid&#;.
Dat geldt voor meer lezers van deze pagina&#;s, maar hij bezat een groot talent, smaak, kennis en een enorme werkkracht, hij wortelde in drukkerij Enschedé waar hij het Van Krimpen-elixir dronk. Monnikenwerk bracht de esthetiek en lichte elegantie voort die zijn werk steeds kenmerkt.

Kern van deze collectie vormen de 38 bladen (25 × 37 cm) met werktekeningen van de Lexicon in zwarte inkt met commentaar in blauw voor Peter Matthias Noordzij van The Enschedé Font Foundry (producent en uitgever). Verder is er de eerste ruwe tekening in viltstift uit , met onderaan opgeplakt fotografische verkleiningen om het ontwerp in een klein corps te kunnen beoordelen. Tot de overige documentatie behoren onder meer de contourprints voor de digitale productie. Verder is er een niet gebruikte werktekening voor de Trinité uit maart (26 × 36 cm).
Op verzoek van de collectiebeheerder schreef De Does, als begeleidende documentatie, 'De ontwikkeling van de Lexicon' (maart , 24 bl.). Dit handschrift is in de collectie opgenomen.
Tenslotte is er, uit het bezit van De Does, de naar ontwerp van Jan van Krimpen door J.M. Veldheer gehakte alfabetsteen. Ook bevat de collectie circa boeken en brochures.
